Mark Hunt was born on March 23, 1974, in South Auckland, New Zealand. Hunt was a troubled child and got two years in jail for violent offenses. After a fist fight outside of the nightclub, Sam Marsters who owns a gym in the city saw Hunt knocking out multiple people by himself and invited him to start training in his gym.
Fighting Career
Only after one week of his formal training did Hunt win a Muay Thai kickboxing match via knockout. Hunt moved to Sydney, Australia, and started training with Alex Tui.
Hunt started competing in K-1 and won the K-1 Oceania title by knocking out “The Coconut Crusher” Aumitagi in the quarterfinals. He also won multiple K-1 titles including the 2001 K-1 World Grand Prix Champion and the 2001 K-1 World Grand Prix Preliminary Melbourne Champion.
After winning in K-1 Hunt started MMA He fought in PRIDE and UFC promotions. After the acquisition of Pride Fighting Championships by the UFC, Hunt was paid $450,000 to sign with them.
